From WordPress to Jekyll

I’ve been writing blog posts in Portuguese since 2008 using WordPress. After moving to Canada, I decided to start another one in English.

After starting to study a little bit about Ruby, I decided that going for a Ruby based solution would be a good experience. The idea was triggered by a friend of mine, Arthur Gouveia. He is a guru on web development. And you know what we do when we find one? We listen to them!

After doing some research, I found that the most popular solution for static pages is GitHub Pages using Jekyll, so I went for it.

By the time this post is being written, I’m using the default template that comes with Jekyll and it was just a matter of following some simple steps and changing some variables. Converting my HTML based original posts to Markdown was the most time consuming part of it. Maybe the next steps will be tweaking the UI a little bit.
